Hi, I am Kat, the owner of Consolidated Plants. Born and raised in Washington State, living and thriving until I become one with my garden beds.
Consolidated Plants…how did I land on that name, you wonder. Well, my folks are from Washington: mom a farm town and dad the bustling city of Seattle. I reflect on my life, on my folks’ life and their upbringing, what they have achieved and bestowed: I am so proud to be their daughter.
My dad, Paul, was an active and imaginative boy growing up in the streets of Seattle. His dad, my Papa Ron, met my Grandma Bernie, a veteran, at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. They married, settled in Seattle. Papa Ron owned a heating company, Consolidated Fuel and Heating Company: first selling coal and then selling home heating oil. Note the name ‘Consolidated’.
Born on a 40-acre farm, my mom Sheree, had a unique childhood. She became a resilient woman with dreams to leave the small town, create a family and the life and support she wanted. Grandpa Lee and Grandma Barb raised dairy cows and gardened for everyday food. They passed along their green thumb to me.
Established in 1990 by my folks, Consolidated Landscape (note the ‘Consolidated’ in the name) proved to be a successful business. Their work ethic, grace, generosity, and love for family and friends is ingrained in my character too.
Paul’s youngest sibling, Marty, is a smart cookie too. She settled in Edmonton, Canada and created her own business: Interpreting Consolidated (catching on now?). IC publishes products for people working to improve their American Sign Language and/or interpretation skills, and for those who teach these skills to others. She roped me into the business after I graduated with a degree in sign language interpretation.
Ten years into the sign language interpreting profession, I have found my other passion is working in the garden. I created Consolidated Plants in 2025 to share my perennial (and annual) happiness with others. I am proud to add another ‘Consolidated’ business to our family tradition.
